Navistar, Cummins hit milestone of 10,000 orders for trucks with Cummins engines

Aug. 13, 2013

Navistar officials said on August 12 that they have secured more than 10,000 orders for International trucks powered by the Cummins ISX15 engine and Cummins SCR aftertreatment system. The announcement comes seven months after the re-introduction of Cummins engines in International trucks.

"The International ProStar with ISX has a strong reputation within the industry and we are seeing increased interest for this configuration across our key segments," says Bill Kozek, president, North American truck and parts, Navistar. "We brought the Cummins ISX back for a reason--our customers demanded a capable and efficient 15-liter solution within our International ProStar chassis, and this milestone along with the number of repeat orders, is a testament to customer acceptance."

In addition to availability in International's ProStar model, the engine was also re-launched in the International PayStar 5900 set-back axle and the International 9900i in April of this year.

Navistar has received orders from a number of the industry's largest for-hire and leasing fleets, including Knight, Penske, Ryder, and Swift, according to Navistar officials. In July, the company reported on-highway class 8 order share at its highest level in three years.

"Increasing acceptance from our large fleet customers who conduct rigorous analysis prior to purchase is evidence of the value our vehicles deliver," adds Kozek.

Navistar launched its transition to SCR-based technology with the Cummins ISX15 engine in late December 2012. The majority of configuration options for SCR-powered International heavy-duty vehicle models are nearing completion throughout the month of August.
