Atlas earns USPS award for 2017 hurricane relief efforts

Sept. 20, 2018
Atlas Oil recently received a Supplier Excellence Award for its service to USPS throughout the 2017 hurricane season.

Atlas Oil recently received a Supplier Excellence Award through the United States Postal Service Supplier Performance Awards Program for its service to USPS throughout the 2017 hurricane season in an “unprecedented” quadruple emergency deployment.

“Our emergency fueling team worked collaboratively for several months with the team at USPS to make sure this invaluable service continued when people needed it most," said Jayme Oyen, Atlas director of emergency fuel services.

Atlas has an obligation to provide a set amount of dedicated equipment to the USPS upon request to anywhere in the Continental United States. During the 2017 hurricane season, Atlas “flexed” to provide as much as 5x the amount of equipment and personnel required by contract and extended coverage offshore to support needs in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

“The storms presented extraordinary logistical challenges, yet our drivers ensured USPS remained operational through it all,” said Jeremy Whiddon, Atlas vice president of business development.

The Supplier Performance Awards have recognized outstanding contributions to the success of USPS operations for more than 25 years. Winners are selected on a variety of factors, including helping USPS “achieve positive bottom-line savings, increased revenue or performance results and have consistently exhibited a collaborative business relationship with the USPS,” according to the USPS website.

“The Atlas team worked 24/7 to ensure USPS remained operational in the face of some of the worst hurricanes this country has seen,” said Bob Kenyon president of Atlas. “I’m extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of the individuals who dedicated months of their time to make sure Americans affected by the storms still had access to USPS services.”
