DESPITE a slowing economy, tank truck carriers made a strong showing at the 34th annual Bulk Carrier Day in Edison, New Jersey. They couldn't have asked for a more picture-perfect day for the event on June 5 at The Pines Manor.
Approximately 35 tank truck rigs were on hand for this year's appearance and safety contest. About 25 vendors displayed their products and services. Numerous shippers were on hand to view the vehicles and parts displays during the reception that accompanied the event.
Acting New Jersey Governor Donald T DiFrancesco recognized the important role played by the tank truck industry by proclaiming June 5 as Bulk Carriers Day for New Jersey. The proclamation recognized that the state has been a bulk transportation hub for many years.
Bulk Carrier Day is organized and sponsored by the Bulk Carrier Day Committee, with a membership that includes tank truck carriers and suppliers. Chairman of the 2001 Bulk Carrier Day Committee was Karalynn Gerace. Cochairmen were Steve Quadrel, All Chem Transport & Leasing; and Terri Thurston, Dana Leasing Corp.
Judges for the 2001 Equipment Contest were SFC John Herman and Sgt Paul Kelly, New Jersey State Police, and David Yessen, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Money raised from Bulk Carrier Day was donated to the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation, Deborah Hospital Foundation, and Seaman's Church Institute.
The 2002 Bulk Carrier Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, in Edison.
