Passivating a stainless steel tank can improve the life of a tank trailer vessel and insures hard-to-clean areas are pristine, said Bob Young of Lafayette Sani-Wash Inc and George Lyon of Cleaning Solutions Inc.

The pair made the remarks at the National Tank Truck Carriers Cleaning Council meeting March 28-29 in Phoenix AZ.

They cautioned the tank cleaning group to remember to always clean a tank before beginning the passivation treatment.

They also advised that all new stainless steel tanks receive the treatment before use and others after they receive the HM183 test.

Some customers prefer to have tanks passivated before they are to be welded in repairs procedures, Young said.
