Penton’s new IoT Institute focuses on 'Internet of Things'

April 27, 2016

Penton, parent company of Bulk Logistics Trends and Bulk Transporter magazine, has announced a major new partnership and collaboration for its IoT Institute, an online community and live events brand focused on this rapidly growing new sector.

We’re hearing more about the Internet of Things (IoT), referring to the many possible webs of interconnected data streams from devices--and what can be done once all that information is linked and synched. Trucks and things like onboard sensors, cameras and electronic control modules are one example. Now,

The Penton IoT Institute has partnered with and become a member of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), a global public-private group formed to accelerate adoption and enablement of the IoT in industries including transportation, energy, health care and manufacturing. Penton and IIC will work together to fill what the organizations see as an education gap on the IoT through:

• Research and e-learning;

• Collaboration on the IOT Solutions World Congress awards program recognizing innovative and impactful projects in this arena; and

• Events such as Forum Industrie 4.0 at Hannover Messe 2016, which is set to focus on communication standards in the industrial IoT, among other topics.

Machine-to-machine communication, connected devices, the industrial IoT and networked society are all major themes you'll find across Penton. "We've launched the IoT Institute because our users are seeing a gap in information on the topic of IoT that we can fill," said Karen Field, executive director of content at the IoT Institute. "IIC is a strong global advocate for the industrial IoT. Their objectives to educate and promote industry best practices are in perfect alignment with our goals. We believe this partnership will strengthen and amplify both IIC's and our efforts. We are thrilled to join the IIC as a member."

"Penton's IoT Institute is perfectly positioned in the market with its focus on the Industrial IoT and smart cities, its mission to move the market forward with real-world case studies and a focus on empowering collaborative decision making teams," said William Hoffman, president of IIC. "We're pleased to have them join IIC as a member, as our goals are well aligned and the partnership will provide visibility and a platform to showcase the work of the IIC and its member companies."

"Additionally, the IoT Institute's close collaborative relationship with Penton's industrial segments like the manufacturing market via the IndustryWeek brand, energy market via Transmission & Distribution World and The Energy Times brands, and transportation market via brands like Aviation Week and Wards Auto all adds up to a very positive partnership," Hoffman stated.
