Ruan’s vice-president of safety Lisa Gonnerman was recently elected treasurer of the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) Safety Management Council Management Advisory Board. Over the next three years, she will advance to second vice-chairman, first vice-chairman, and eventually national chairman.

The Safety Management Council is dedicated to advancing safe policies, practices and technology, as well as promoting effective risk management and accident/injury prevention in the trucking industry. The council also addresses trucking’s human resources challenges, health and wellness issues and recruitment and retention strategies. In addition, Gonnerman is in the first year of a two-year term as chairman of the Safety Management Council’s regulations committee. She will attend bi-annual meetings, one of which will take place at the ATA in Arlington VA.

“It’s important to be representing Ruan to the trucking industry and to have contacts with our regulators,” Gonnerman said. “Involvement in the Safety Management Council ensures we have up-to-date information on regulations so we can proactively prepare as an organization.”

Gonnerman also serves on the Commercial Vehicle Safely Alliance’s (CVSA) Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) committee; the Iowa Motor Truck Association’s (IMTA) Iowa Council of Safety Management Steering Committee; and the IMTA’s Truck Driving Championships Committee.

“We are very proud to have Lisa on our team,” said Vice President of Human Resources Ron Hanson. “Her involvement in these industry leading organizations is a testament to her effective leadership and commitment to the safety of professional truck drivers and the motoring public.”
