Airgas Inc was awarded two Fleet Safety Excellence Awards by the Compressed Gas Association (CGA), the US industrial, specialty and medical gas industry’s standard-setting organization for the promotion of safety standards and safe practices. The first award honored Airgas’ cylinder vehicle fleet and the second award recognized the Airgas bulk vehicle fleet.

During a recent ceremony in Scottsdale AZ, on behalf of Airgas’ fleet of 5,000 professional drivers, John Anderson, Airgas’ director of DOT operations, accepted the Cylinder Vehicle Fleet award, and Mark Penaherrera, vice-president of safety compliance and regulatory affairs for Airgas Merchant Gases, accepted the Bulk Vehicle Fleet award.

“We are honored to be recognized by the CGA for having the best safety record among large cylinder gas and bulk fleets,” says Michael Molinini, Airgas president and chief executive officer. “In 2012, our drivers certainly went the distance--covering more than 128 million miles while safely meeting the needs of our cylinder and bulk gas customers. Safety is of the utmost importance in our industry and a top priority for Airgas. We’re very proud of our drivers and their dedication to driving and serving our customers safely.”

The CGA calculates its Fleet Safety awards on a CGA member company’s total vehicle accident frequency rate per million miles driven during the year. The CGA recognizes one small fleet and one large fleet in each of the Bulk Vehicle and Cylinder Vehicle categories. Airgas won the large fleet award in both categories.
