Heil Trailer International has appointed Joe Calonge chief engineer — research and development director. He had served as chief engineer since 1995. Ron Humphreys has been promoted from product manager to manufacturing manager for Heil's Athens TN facility. Initially, Humphreys will be responsible for the firm's petro and dry bulk lines. By year's end, he will be responsible for the entire manufacturing operation.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co has named Rick Navarro vice-president — business development. He joins Goodyear from Solectron Corp, where he was senior vice-president of corporate development. Brent Copeland has been named as president and chief operating officer of Wingfoot Commercial Systems, the Fort Smith AR-based operation of Goodyear. He replaces Stephen McClellan, who recently was named vice-president of Goodyear North American Tire's commercial tire systems. Most recently, Copeland had served Wingfoot as vice-president — sales and marketing.

Kent D Jones has been appointed vice-president of heavy-duty sales and marketing for Delco Remy. He most recently was the firm's vice-president of aftermarket sales and marketing.

Ed Wentz has joined Webb Wheel Products Inc as vice-president of business development, and Michael Krassick has been named director of materials. Krassick replaces Jim Barmettler, who retired in September after more than 24 years with the company. Wentz comes from Fontaine International, where he held several executive sales and marketing positions. Krassick most recently was materials manager at Webb.

Smith System has added four new driving trainers: Michael Berry of Ohio, Joseph Maun of Illinois, Donald Converse of California, and George “Stan” Weik of Texas. Lee Evenson joined the company as regional sales manager for the Central Mountain Region and will be a Smith certified instructor. He previously sold products to the traffic safety industry and was formerly a driver and safety committee chairperson for United Parcel Service. Smith has also added Karen Carroll as sales assistant.
