NTTC to co-sponsor cargo tank workshops

The National Tank Truck Carriers and Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will co-sponsor two cargo tank test and inspection workshops in Manchester NH and Houston TX in spring 2003. The two-day workshops cover compliance with DOT's cargo tank qualification and maintenance regulations in 49 CFR Parts 107 and 180.

Workshops will be conducted by FMCSA field agents active in cargo tank regulatory enforcement and cover all types of specification cargo tanks. DOT will discuss HM-213 if it is a final rule. This rule, once finalized, will revise maintenance regulations within Part 180. Workshops scheduled are:

  • May 6-7, Best Western Executive Inn (Airport) Manchester

  • June 17-18, Marriott Hobby Airport Hotel, Houston Topics include: 49 CFR Part 180 overview; special test/inspection conditions; registration for test/inspection facilities; qualifications of registered inspectors and authorized inspectors; external and internal visual inspections; pressure, leakage, and thickness tests; lining inspections; recordkeeping; DOT interpretations; and compliance and enforcement.

  • July 29-30, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • August 12-13, Los Angeles CA
  • August 19-20, Philadelphia PA
  • Sept. 16-17, Nashville TN
