Goodyear search on for American Highway Hero

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, Akron OH, is seeking nominations for its annual North American Highway Hero Award that honors truck drivers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty on the highway. Nominations for the 25th award will be accepted through November 30, 2007....

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, Akron OH, is seeking nominations for its annual North American Highway Hero Award that honors truck drivers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty on the highway.

Nominations for the 25th award will be accepted through November 30, 2007. To be considered for this year’s award, the following criteria must be met:

•Nominee must be a full-time truck driver.

•Nominee must be a resident of the United States or Canada.

•Incident recognized must have occurred in the United States or Canada.

•Nominee must have been on the job or on the way to or from work, and in his or her rig at the time of the incident.

•Nominee’s truck at the time of the incident must have 14 wheels or more.

•Incident must have taken place between November 16, 2006, and November 15, 2007, to qualify.

One of the finalists in last year's contest was Elizabeth Pavlista, of Miami AZ, who is a driver for bulk barrier B J Cecil Trucking Inc. Pavlista rescued a woman from her burning car after it rolled down an embankment on Arizona Highway 177 August 8. The woman died from her injuries.
