Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC), Detroit MI, has responded to a report that the company says is erroneous about the MBE 4000 engine, for which DDC has sales and service responsibility in NAFTA. The report, which was provided to truck dealer sales personnel, claimed that the MBE 4000 engine would not be certified for year 2004 emissions standards and beyond.

"We fully intend to certify the engine in 2004, and in 2007 as well," said Mark Bara, senior vice-president, on-highway engines. "It is the newest engine design available. The MBE 4000 is the perfect complement to the Series 60 engine and was just recently added to the DDC product line-up. The MBE 4000 has already developed a reputation for excellent fuel economy, along with being the lightest of the heavy-duty engines while offering a full 12.8 liters of displacement."
